February Staff Goal: Zero Med Errors

February 12, 2016

Administering medications is a crucial part of the care we provide at SCK. The process is extremely rigid in order to ensure the safety of our clients.

·If anyone other than the in-charge will administer any medications, communicate that at fill-in, check in with your team at med. administration time and double check the med. charts and HPNs before the end of the shift.

· Be especially vigilant in regards to clients with Asthma Action Plans. Review these plans regularly and communicate any medication/health changes at fill-in, with your shift team, and in the notebook.

· Review HPNs daily.

· If clients do not have an approved Standing Order Med Sheet, communicate any need for SOMs immediately with your team to determine if an appointment/urgent care trip is needed.

· Write HPNs for all PRNs, one hour after administering a PRN and regularly until the client’s issue is resolved.

· Any questions? Do not hesitate to call our nurse, Martha.
